August 14th

Arrived around 11 am to make it around slack time at the lagoon pond bridge. We are anchored on the pond near the sail camp park. We're well protected and an easy kayak ride to the camp public beach. From there we walk 5mn to the bus stop. We have a 3 day bus pass and put it to the test. Google has a pass app, so you can scan in the bus the pass..we are really liking this public bus systems. Okay it took us 45 mn to get to town, but those drivers are so nice, one even called ahead so the bus at the roundabout knew that we would need a pick up.

The town is very charming, and we walked through the historic district, admiring well preserved nicely flowering garden. We stopped for a coffee and tea plus a sweet treat in town. Then it was time for grocery shopping and returning to the boat. We were very lucky for a beautiful evening weather. We are expecting rain pretty much from dawn to noon tomorrow.

August 15th,

Edgartown, charming is a word I use a lot in this Cape Cod trip. We love these well preserved typical cape cod homes, with gardens full of blooms. I don't how they keep the weeds away and manage those giant flowers...if there is a trick I want to know. We had lunch in a diner with old style 50s vibe, and in addition of walking to the lighthouse we visited the Carnegie house that house a very nice museum about the history of the island. We returned to the boat by bus and went around with our kayak, battling a bit the wind.

August 16th,

Aquinnah lighthouse, the colorful cliffs and a picnic lunch on the beach admiring it all.

The bus drivers are very helpful and dropped us to Menemsha Hills where we walked on the well marked trails. This part of the island is forested, hilly and recalls its rural past as many fields are still walled by stones and the villages have small barns, and country stores. The views of the seas and the Elizabeth island across the sound are just enchanting.

August 17th,

Last day in Martha's vineyard. We went to Oak Bluffs. In the mid 19th century people started inter faith gathering first in tents and then in cottages, that people crafted with gingerbread victorian style. At the center of it there is a large pavillon for services. We really enjoyed walking around this village of cottages, and walked to the lighthouse at telegraph hill. We were planning on returning by bus, but as the weather was fine and we would have to wait a long time, we walked back to the sailing camp beach. The night was fine if a bit rattled by rain episodes.
