October 7th,

We managed a reservation to visit Theodore Roosevelt's home in Sagamore Hill, which is within Oyster Bay. Reservations are hard to get, but we got a 1pm.,so whatever the rain we were determined.

We moved our boat to anchor at the nearest point to the park and rode our dinghy to the beach that lead to the trail. The rain had let off and we were optimistic. The guided visit of his home was excellent. The place is as it was during his life time, and it is very fortunate to have a president's home so authenticly preserved.

After the visit, it was pouring and even though we waited a bit comfortably on a bench on the veranda, we could tell that drenched we would be no matter how long we waited...and we went on and we became. By the time we reach the dinghy it didn't matter if we walked with our shoes or not to drag the dinghy back in the water. Once on the boat we realized that to protect ourselves from the strong winds in the night and on Sunday, we should relocate closer to the shore. So we moved the boat in the rain, but we felt more secure. Tonight, as I am writing this, it is going to be rocking! Oh well, we are fine and our anchor is well set. We will tell you more tomorrow.
