July 7th

Navigated to Fire island which doesn't have any paved road, so traffic should be minimal, other boaters' wake is another story.

Had one bit of a scare with depth, as I just hit a very shallow point. Happily with a bit a soft touch we returned to 4 ft of water. We have been extra careful as our paper and electronic charts are not always that accurate. There is never enough red and green markers in these conditions.

We took our dinghy to the sunken forest trail, we happened to notice people at a wooden overlook and that prompted us to seek a landing there. We had to climb a bit but it was fine.

We walked through the forest, splashed in the beach surfs, walked to Cherry Grove which is an interesting community and returned to the boat...time to relax and rest this evening. The heat and humidity dropped and we are hopping for a quiet night.
